The Saturday girl and her big sister
Seventh Avenue opened for its first client in the first week of April 1984. Joanne was a twenty-year-old hairdresser and her younger sister Tory was the Saturday girl, aged fourteen. Within a couple of years Joanne had taken the salon on, Tory had qualified, and the two of them have run it together ever since.
Andrea has been a stylist here for thirty-five years, and Lucy has looked after the beauty room upstairs for more than twenty. Plenty of clients go back nearly as far. Joanne cut one client's hair for her wedding almost forty years ago, and now cuts her children's.
It's 100 per cent a Wella salon, so when styles and colours change, the team learns the new techniques and carries on. Through forty-two years and a pandemic, the door at no. 7 has stayed open.
Same street. Same sisters. Since April 1984.
